The Ironies of the Cross

Streams in the desert

Our God works in mysterious ways. He reminds us of this in the book of Isaiah, that His ways are not our ways, nor are His thoughts our thoughts.  The bible is a book stacked with irony and full of mystery.  The first irony I want to look at today is of the cross.

It is where we see evil intention being transformed into divine salvation.

God interrupted the evil schemes of man and Satan when He resurrected Christ from the dead. For we read in the book of Acts that death could not hold Him.  God, in His divine justice, overruled all wicked intentions and used their very acts of disobedience to bring life and salvation to the entire world, for anyone who would receive.

The second irony we see is that resurrection comes THROUGH crucifixion. The cross represents death, pain and suffering.  It is out of this death that LIFE appears.  To personalize this truth, we realize that our own death to self must occur so that we can encounter HIS glorious life and vanquish all evil in our being.  Jesus so eloquently tells us in the book of John, “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels–a plentiful harvest of new lives. Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity.  Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.” John 12:24-26 NLT

Inside of Jesus’ words is the startling truth that if we desire to save our life we will lose it. However, when we choose to lose our life for His sake, we are then able to find true life- This is good news!

It is on the cross that Jesus once and for all defeated Satan. Paul reminds us in Colossians that we have been made alive with Christ, the anointed One, because He disarmed the powers and authorities and triumphed over them all by the cross.  Col. 2:13-15

Again, we see that out of death, our enemy has been defeated and we can now enter into the abundant life that Jesus calls us to.

My friend, are you truly living today? Are you focusing on the goodness of God despite your current situations?  If not, I want to encourage you to enter into the fullness of God’s goodness.  God will sometimes confront us with deep pain and suffering because He desires to reveal His goodness to us.    We experience the goodness of God only through the revelation of His glory, which is His unique nature and essence.   God displays Himself as supremely good in the midst of the most intense evil and suffering experienced on this earth – the cross of Calvary.

I have a quote hanging in my office that reads, “If I don’t see the cross and what Jesus did for me, then I can NEVER be truly free.”

God has overturned all human pain because He experienced it for us. He displayed His goodness by suffering on our behalf.

And so I leave you with this…..Make pain your friend! Cause any and all pain in your life to catapult you into the arms of a loving Father who created you and has a divine purpose for you here on this earth and for all eternity.  Memorize Jeremiah 29:11 and meditate on its truths and goodness.  Allow pain to bring you to a place of complete dependence on the One who formed you in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139)

Whatever you do, don’t try and escape from your pain, but be with it. Because the attempt to escape from pain only creates more pain.” – Asian Proverb

It is through our pain and suffering that we experience lasting joy and encounter His beautiful glory.  Romans 8:17

The Son Has Risen

dawn3

The Son

Any freedom I walk in is because of God’s grace.

It is not anything I have done except lean into Him and make Him my life….my essence!

The letter of the law nearly strangled me to death; my paltry obedience was never enough.

I was suffocating under its weight.

I was broken beyond repair……except for the CROSS!

He stepped down from the glory and came to save me; He left to come and find me.

He became my darkness; He took what was mine and gave me His.

He is my morning! He is my new beginning; He is my dawn.

And now I share in the brightness of His love and His power has reached me.

No longer forsaken, but received.

No longer a beggar, but a daughter.

It is out of my brokenness that He comes and shines through.

And now He says that I am altogether lovely

No stain or blemish found within.

I am forgiven. I am cleansed.  His mercies are new.

They have kissed with truth – righteous has sprung forth.

Good morning beautiful you, you are worth waking for!

A song of thanksgiving to my Beloved- L. Roitsch

Abiding…Remaining

fruit2

As I was reading John chapter 15 this morning, I saw a vision of a massive vineyard. The plants within the vineyard were healthy and mature and laden with massive amounts of fruit.  So much fruit that the branches could not bear it all.  As a result, fruit had begun to drop on the ground.  It was a beautiful sight and as I was marveling at its abundance, I saw Jesus begin to walk up and down the rows of the vineyard.  He was smiling from ear to ear.  In His hand was a large basket, and He was bending down and picking up all the fruit from the ground.  His joy was undeniable and His excitement over His vineyard was evident.  When His basket was full, He walked out of the vineyard, and began to distribute to all the people that were outside.  As the people received the gift of fruit, transformations began to occur.  When people touched the fruit, they were filled with joy, peace and healing.  Instantly, souls were delivered from darkness and pain.

Jesus was laughing and proclaiming, “Yes my loved ones, abide in My love for you. Love one another, as I have loved you so deeply.”  He joined in the dancing and soon a huge celebration began.  Children and adults of all sizes and colors poured into the streets.

Instantly, there was a banner overhead with these words:

“I am the vine, and you are the branches. The one who abides and remains in Me will bear much fruit!”

My friends, as we stay connected to our true source of life, Jesus, we will produce fruit for the entire world. We are called to be a blessing!  My prayer every morning has been:  “Father, I want to love you with all my heart, mind and strength today.  I want to love others and serve others today.  Show me what to do today so that is accomplished.”

It is an incredible adventure to serve the King of the Universe. Each day is new and fresh.  And for those of us who are following Jesus, there are no bad days, only days of MORE grace!

As we grow and mature into beautiful plantings of the Lord, may we be branches that drip with lots and lots of sustaining fruit. This world is starving for a substance that produces satisfaction deep within and yet, many do not know where to find it.  I encourage you to take your fruit out into the streets, as Jesus did, and bless as many people who will receive.  You never know whose life will be impacted and changed forever!

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you and that your joy may be full.”

The greatest antidote to depression, worry and anxiety is the abundant joy of living inside of Christ’s love. May you encounter His peace, love and mercy fresh and new today.  And may you go and serve others so they can know the Father’s heart and nature.

Taste and see that the LORD is good!

Love, Lisa

Open Letter of Thanks!

Love2

Dear Faithful William –

Thank you for not quitting! Thank you for not throwing in the towel, telling me “adios baby” and walking away.  You have every reason and right but, you have chosen the narrow and high road.  Thank you!

Thank you for not giving up on me as I strive to grow up and become the Godly woman I desire. Thank you for believing in me when I couldn’t do that for myself. The world may not thank you, but I do. Thank you for loving me with an unconditional love that frees me to become more!

Thank you for putting God and faith first. Because of this, our family has not crumbled and been destroyed.  Thank you for getting up early to read and spend time in prayer.  The world may call you a fool, but they don’t recognize the gift like you do.  You have made spiritual matters a priority in our life and the results are more valuable than gold and rubies.   Others may look for a big, fat bank account and a vacation house, except those things are not important to you.  Thank you for putting eternity first!

Over the years, you have worked so hard. Many, many hours, so that our family could thrive. You went without and always took “less” so that we could have more.  Others may not have noticed, but I do.  Thank you!

You chose without complaint to drive the old clunky car with peeling paint so that we could have nicer, newer cars. Our neighbors probably wondered…and yet, I didn’t.  Because I knew – you preferred us over yourself.  Thank you!

You turned down lots of fun, fishing trips with the guys so that you could stay home and be a dad. You knew I needed a break from being a mom to 3 little girls who had more energy than both of us together. Your friends didn’t understand why, but I do.  Thank you!

Others may see you as quiet and silent, but I know your mind is full of ideas and thoughts on how to improve our family, marriage and world. People may think you are too quiet, and yet, I know the treasury of knowledge and wisdom that is stored away inside.  Thank you for choosing your words wisely!

You have cooked, cleaned, done the laundry, grocery shopped and more. You have broken all traditional roles of who or what a man and husband is to be.  The world may not have appreciated your example but, I have.  Thank you!

I have been afforded a life of ease in so many ways because you sheltered me and the girls by taking the brunt of responsibility. Responsible for our finances, our future, our provision and our dreams.  You have led us quietly when others may have demanded or forced.  Thank you for leading by example – it is has been more effective and produced more fruit than most can see.

The lined pages of your prayer journals are a legacy that this world can never appreciate, but I do. And your children and grandchildren do – thank you!  You have inspired me, encouraged me and fought the good fight with me.  I am thankful, I am grateful and I deeply, deeply appreciate YOU!

I am so honored that God chose you to walk this journey of life with me. To HIM be all the glory!

Letting Go

kaleighwalkingawaybw

Last night’s sleep is fading away and my eyes are not yet in focus.

I sip my morning coffee alone in solitude.

As the hot liquid slides down my throat,

SHE enters the room.

I take a deep breath and exhale slowly.

No longer is a child standing before me, but rather

an exquisite young creature who is erupting into womanhood.

Gone is my rosy-faced toddler with bouncy yellow curls.

Long tea parties and fuzzy, stuffed animals are replaced with a

strong confidence and wisdom beyond her years.

Infectious laughter has given way to a voice that is filled

with steady determination and security.

As she comes to me and gently places her head on my shoulder I notice how much she has truly grown.

Now taller than I, there is a stately quality to her that causes me to tremble.

I lean back against the wall in wonder as I watch her prepare for her day.

Suddenly, hot tears fill my eyes and I quickly look down…embarrassed.

A tender moment for me and yet she doesn’t understand.

Curiously she looks at me with a crumbled brow, shrugging her shoulders

Merely whispering a soft, “good morning” and then

she floats out of the room.

Her golden tresses a muss as she brushes them away from her sleepy eyes.

I watch as she quietly leaves….

Long, slender legs that used to wrap themselves tightly around my waist in a bear hug.

Now they are grown and they will carry her into the fullness of what lies ahead.

Yes, my little girl is becoming a woman and my heart is filled with equal parts pain and joy.

I sigh heavily and close my eyes….

Imagining the wondrous future that lies ahead for the two of us.

I wrote this poem over 10 years ago while watching our oldest daughter transition into womanhood.

This past week, we moved our 3rd and last daughter into her college dorm and I found myself with lots of emotions.  As I stretched up to hug my lil sunshine good-bye, I remembered this poem and its truths stung me again.

Raising children into adulthood is one of the most challenging and rewarding tasks there is.  Over the last 23 years, my husband and I have shed more tears than we knew we held but we have also laughed till our sides ached with immense joy!

Being a Mom has truly been one of the most rewarding experiences.  Don’t blink my friends, it will be over before you know it.  Enjoy the moment.

Much love…..Lisa Roitsch

Divine Romance

Divine Romance

Is It The Greatest Challenge on Earth???

My husband and I have been together for over 27 years with 3 grown daughters who are our delight and joy!

To say that our home and union has always been filled with unconditional love, peace and joy would be a false statement and would be deceitful. Marriage is hard work!  Two becoming one requires death, sacrifice and an unwavering commitment to the vows you proclaimed on your wedding day.  Some days are extremely painful and there can be feelings of rejection, anger and betrayal.  There are moments when you believe “I should have never married this person” and doubt can cloud everything sacred. Being married forces you to face some ugly character issues you would probably NEVER realize otherwise. But the good news is you are not alone and you do not lack the resources needed to restore and rebuild a marriage that is crumbling.

Strong marriages, Christian or not, will be struck by lightning – sexual temptations, communication problems, major frustrations and unrealized expectations. But I have concluded that if Christian marriages especially, are watered with the word and presence of Christ daily, then conditions will not be ready for a destroying fire to consume them and/or their families.

“If I am only married for happiness and my happiness wanes for whatever reason, one little spark will burn the entire forest of my relationship.” ~ Gary Thomas

One of the reasons that my husband and I have determined to keep our marriage together is not because doing so would make us both happy, and it hasn’t been because we did not want our kids to know the pain of divorce (because we certainly did not). The main motivation for keeping my marriage in tact is because of the vows I made to God the day I surrendered my life to Him.  Since one of my core values is based on proclaiming God’s message of love and reconciliation to the world, I realized that my marriage needed to reflect this truth.  How can I love mankind unconditionally and proclaim reconciliation to the world if my marriage is seeking to be dissolved and finished?

Putting my relationship with Christ first becomes the plumb line for everything else in my life to hang on. When pleasing my heavenly Father is more important than pleasing my spouse or myself, there is balance and order that can produce fruit that others can enjoy.  Not giving up when things get tough, and learning to lean into the pain of conflict and being misunderstood is a huge victory.  One that will produce life, growth and maturity.  Our old pastor used to teach us that marriage is a tool designed by God to conform us into the image of Jesus.  The choice is to allow the tool to be effective in our life or not.

I am convinced that God planted marriage among mankind in order to display the mysteries of His own eternal and spiritual existence. Marriage can become a vehicle that will catapult you into knowing your Creator in ways you never imagined and your life can be filled with deep purpose and satisfaction as you grow to know and love Him fully.  Let us take the challenge of “being fully enlightened to know Him and His calling” (Ephesians 1:18)

May we ever have before us the knowledge that our marriage is not just about “us” but about what God is building through and in us. It is about growing His kingdom on earth and displaying His forgiveness, love and redemption in all ways to all people.  I want my life, marriage and my children to be so fruitful that the world cannot not deny the goodness of God’s spirit living in and through us.  I want everyone who comes into contact with us to benefit from HIS life in us.  For where the kingdom of God dwells there is righteousness, peace and joy! (Romans 14:17)

Let us conclude with this thought: Perhaps the real purpose of marriage is not for my own happiness as much as it is for His holiness.

“Those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15

****I have read countless books on marriage but my all time favorite is “Sacred Marriage” by Gary Thomas.  If you are serious about your relationship with God and your spouse then get a copy today – read it together and pray daily for one another.  I promise you will not regret it!

With deep love and affection – Lisa

Crossing Over

crossing over

Sometimes we all need a reminder that we are in a battle for the lives and souls of mankind. We have an enemy.  And he often knows who we are before we do.  The enemy strategically targets…..and guess what?  YOU and I are a target!  As God’s children, we are created in His image and likeness and we are marked.  And when you and I are marked by the Most High God, we become noted by the enemy.

Oftentimes the attacks on your life have more to do with who you might be in the future than who you are right now or even who you have been in the past. Our enemy sets up ambush early in our lives thru pain and trauma and will not relent until he has utterly destroyed. BUT, your history does not determine your destiny!  And your past does not have to proclaim your future!

I see this ambush across our land today to divide, spread violence and hatred……But I also see the light and love of God shining through.

When man decides to do what is right in his own eyes, there will never be justice or fairness. Until we place ourselves back under the submission of God, our land will not have rest.  The enemy has come in like a flood, but God has raised a standard.  And that is THE POWER OF HIS LOVE!

We may be targeted by the enemy for destruction, but we also have been called to be history makers!   Someone who can transform their world and impact their community with the goodness of Christ.

God created man as the pinnacle of His creation. When He made man and woman, he stepped back and said “it is good!”  In Psalm 8, David proclaims that man has been crowned with glory and honor by God and given dominion over all creation….in fact, all things have been put under man’s feet.

This includes, prejudices, hatred, feelings, murderous thoughts and the like. As human beings, we do not have to be controlled by the injustices of this world or the emotions stirred up by others.  We can put off these fleshly clothes and put on love, mercy, forgiveness and compassion….even when we don’t “feel like it.”

His Love Changes Everything

If God were to offer us a challenge, I think it would be this. To walk every day in His love!  To wake up each day and turn away from the lens of the past.  To trust God in all things and purpose within our hearts to extend kindness, goodness and compassion towards everyone.  When we do this, peace will flood our land.  And it will not be a surprise ambush, but a great deluge that will cover the deeds of hatred and division.  Love gathers…..hatred divides.

Who are you going to be? I hear God asking this question of all mankind.  Whom will you serve today?  Will it be your emotions and circumstances that have happened yesterday?  Or will you defy popular culture and be a history maker for righteousness and honor?

You and I are God’s workmanship, created, shaped and formed in Christ, the anointed One for GOOD works. (Ephesians 2:10) You and I have the opportunity to influence our world, and our cities, with God’s goodness.  He has created a people to do this very thing.  Let us rise to this occasion and not shrink back.  If everyone who calls themselves by the name of Christ would stand in the power of God’s love, I promise we would see our communities and world transformed!

You are marked for greatness!   Who are you going to be today?

F.O.G. – Favor of God

In the last lines of Psalms 23, David makes a profound declaration over his life – “….Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me ALL the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”  Wow – pretty powerful!

Over the last few months I have actually been looking for the favor of God to be on my life.  I expect it- and I even go one step further and hunt for His goodness and mercy.  When we hunt for something we push aside those things that hinder us from finding what we are seeking.  Shove away everything that is blocking you from grabbing ahold of God’s favor.  Our heavenly Father has given us ALL things that pertain to life and godliness, in Christ Jesus (2 Peter 1:3)

I believe as children of God we should live expectantly.   I strive to open up every new day with a earnest awareness that God is going to move into my room and empower me.  I want to change my home, community, city and world for the better.  I want to leave a legacy behind of good.  I desire to be a history maker!

I realize that the cares of this life can wear you down.  It can seem as if the sun will never shine again on that specific situation you are believing for a miracle.  Maybe you are struggling with an illness or disease that the doctors don’t give much hope.  Perhaps you are believing for a marriage to be restored to its former beauty or even believing for a prodigal child to come home.  I want to encourage you to stay strong.  Unexpected sunshine is about to appear!  THE “God of the Suddenly’s” can shine at any moment.

Even as I write this I am pressing into God deeper so that I can see favor and mercy in my physical body.  Over the last 5 weeks I have been in chronic pain and have seen doctors and many physical therapists.  I am expecting God to move everyday to heal and restore me completely.  But while I am waiting, I am declaring the favor of God over my life.  Like David, I am believing and I am confident that God’s goodness is following me and I will not be left in this condition.  I choose to be in a F.O.G. every day.

It is not always easy to push past the pain, but we must.  Pain CAN become your friend – tell pain to work positive benefits in your life.  All it takes is a different perspective.  Lift your eyes up higher – to the face of God.  From up above, your situation will look a whole lot different.  Allow God’s goodness and mercy to become a song over your life and be sure and turn around and see it following you.

I bless you dear reader, to be a tenacious person.  One who keeps a firm hold of something- cling to the promises of God!  Do not grow easily dispelled but, rather be unshakeable, unmovable, unyielding,  and unwavering in decreeing and believing in the favor of God over your life!

Pray and confess this prayer over yourself:

This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.  God has NOT created me for nothing.  He has given me specific assignments and services to offer those around me.  I shall do the work of the LORD.  I will trust Him.  The anointing of God is upon my life and gives me favor in the eyes of God and man every day.  I shall walk daily in victory and liberty of the spirit.   Amen!

Tell Your Story

Book

Raw and Unedited:

The cries of our soul often reveal deep and hidden mysteries. They expose the sorrows of our own life – things that have happened to us or things we have engaged in either unintentionally or voluntarily.   Deeper still, they reveal how our heart is connecting with God.

There have been times when I find myself frustrated that I still falter and stumble at some of my deep emotions.   It is in those times that I cry out to God in desperation-unashamed. As I allow God to come alongside me, His kindness and mercy begins to shine forth.  His word becomes a soothing haven for my soul and I see myself inside of Him and all of His goodness.

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for you, O God”  Psalm 42:1

These concepts began to solidify within me by my fascination in meditating on the Psalms.  I realized David cried out to his God a lot like me.  In fact, some of his prayers are mine!  Through the Psalms, God shows us how to engage with Him in our struggles.  God created our emotions and He wants us to acknowledge and experience them (although not to always allow them to direct our actions or beliefs).  In doing this, we learn what true intimacy is supposed to look like as we partake of God and share our deepest thoughts and emotions with Him.  It is then we can allow Him to untangle everything that is going on within us.

“Search me, O God and know my heart; try me and know my anxieties”  Psalm 139:23

I believe that true healing and restoration occurs when we courageously step into our stories of pain and harm and are empowered to share it with others.  I believe everyone has a story to tell, even our heavenly Father had a story – one He has shared with the whole world.   A story filled with pain, brokenness, and evil. And yet out of that story there is hope, strength and restoration for all!

As we begin to share our pain and emotions with others, something very organic and powerful happens.  We find comfort in knowing that we are not the only one that has been shattered by the evils of this world.   And we begin to begin to find shalom in every dimension of our lives- peace, harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquility.

“Let my soul live and it shall praise You; may Your judgments help me”  Psalm 119:175

I have learned that in telling “my story”, yes, my emotions rise to the surface, but this needs to happen in order for a loving Father to bring healing. This requires the courage to break through my fears of someone else knowing my weaknesses and failures.  When I am brave enough to share my story with others, it creates a community that is authentic and real.  As I find others who are willing to share their story and hear mine, we actually start building the pure house of God.  A free and open place of refuge and safety where we can be fully known and fully loved.

What is the cost involved to let Jesus into your soul?  Only you can answer that question.  But I can tell you that when you venture out and embrace the fullness of who you are -it will empower you to be an agent of transformation in the lives of others.

Precious one, allow the Holy Spirit to talk with you regarding your emotions.  He will speak and show you things about yourself you did not know.  I must warn you however, this is for the brave at heart.  Some things you may have tried burying in the recesses of the dark because they feel too painful, but God wants all things to come to His marvelous light.

“…..The Lord will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reaveal the counsels of the heart”  I Corinthians 4:5

My own healing journey has moved me from a place of shame and failure to a path of goodness, honor and delight.  I write these truths to encourage and inspire others to courageously reach out and begin to tell their story.

You can start with telling your story to your heavenly Father who loves you like no other.  But press on and share it with trusted others  who are able to name both your deep woundedness AND your deep goodness.   As a result, you will grow a deeper capacity to know and live out your calling and engage in life-giving relationships with God and others.

“Because he has set his love on Me, I will deliver him; I will establish him on high beause he has KNOWN my name.

You shall call upon Me and I will answer you.”

Psalm 91:14-15
